Meet our Coaching Staff
Tom Langowski '03 - Program Director, Head Coach
Coach Langowski, a Saint Joseph High School class of 2003 graduate, is the founder and head coach of the Saint Joseph rowing program. Coach Langowski began his rowing career as a Manhattan College where he was a sweep oarsman in the varsity 4+, varsity 8+ and won the varsity 2- MACC Conference Championship. After Manhattan, Langowski coached the juniors programs at the Peter J. Sharp Boathouse in New York City.
Coach Langowski is the co-founder of the Central Jersey Scholastic Rowing Association, of which Saint Joseph Crew is a charter member. Coach Langowski recently placed first in the Masters 4x at the prestigious Head of the Schuylkill Regatta in Philadelphia, PA.
Langowski is a U.S. Rowing certified coach and a licensed member of the US Rowing Referee Corps.
Eric Backlund '03 - Falcon Rowing Club Trustee
Coach Backlund is a 2003 graduate of St. Joesph High School and was a member of the Lafayette University Crew from 2003-2007 where he served as Team President his senior year. From 2008-2010 Coach Backlund was the coach of the Virginia Tech Women's Crew. An active rower, Coach Backlund recently placed first in the Masters 4x at the prestigious Head of the Schuylkill Regatta in Philadelphia, PA.

Coach Backlund is a US Rowing certified coach.
Nicholas G. LaCava '03 - Falcon Rowing Trustee
Coach La Cava, a 2003 alumnus of St. Joseph High School, is a state champion swimmer and two-time Ironman. Coach LaCava is a trustree of the Falcon Rowing program as well as an assistant swimming coach at Saint Joseph High School.

Kyle P. Rivera '13 - Falcon Rowing Club Trustee; Endowment Steward
Kyle Rivera is a 2013 graduate from Saint Joseph High School. In 2010 Kyle was a founding member of the rowing program while he was a sophomore. A three-time letter winner, Mr. Rivera often raced with the varsity quadruple scull in Hanover, New Hampshire, Augusta, Georgia, and numerous regattas in the Mid-Atlantic Region, where the crew became the most winning crew at St. Joseph High School.

Rivera is a graduate of the United States Coast Guard Academy, New London, CT where he served as Whiskey Company Commander. He has had operational assignments on numerous Coast Guard cutters performing counter narcotic, immigrant interdiction, national security and counter terrorism operations in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans as well as the Gulf of Mexico. Rivera will be stationed as the weapons officer on CGC Mohawk in Sector Key West beginning in June 2017.

Christian Ambrico '15 - Assistant Coach
Coach Ambrico is a 2015 graduate of Saint Joesph High School, and was a founding member of the rowing program in September 2010. Christian is a state champion sculler in the lightweight 1x and 2x events.
